Basic requirements; 18- yrs of age Legal resident of Texas No Federal Convictions 1. Complete online web-based application www.sos.state.tx.us Form 2301 2. Print and wet sign application 3. Obtain 10K bond (Bonding company, Insurance Company or through the National NotaryAssociation) 4. Submit your application, Bond, and the filing fee of $21 to SOS (ensure the printed application namematches the signature on the application and on the Bond) 5. Check the Secretary of State website for processing times as these vary each month 6. When your commission certificate arrives, take it to a Texas Notary, sign your Oath of Office, and have it notarized. This commission certificate must be presented to your stamp maker when ordering your seal. Your commission term is for 4-years While you are waiting for your commission;  Texas does not have a Notary handbook like many other states. Check the website for training materials and study all you can find.
