Dealing with pets is part of the job! However, asking the borrower to put away their pets is not appropriate, in my opinion, as we are walking into THEIR house. But! What is appropriate is asking the borrower if they have any pets that won’t interfere with the signing appt when you are confirming the appt beforehand. This usually gives them a heads up that you may be pet averse with asking them to put their pets away. The truth is, you will deal with pets but most borrowers are aware if their pets are unruly and will put them away before you get there. But if you have unruly pets during a signing, you can gently remind them that a missed signature can hold up funding and they usually do something immediately.
