Be VERY CAREFUL…regarding YOUR STATE LAWS!!! Most of this is BAD information…and in many states even ILLEGAL (regarding the prices he states that he charges). WHY? Every state limits the 'per signature cost' of the person(s) signing the documents…they do not allow for a 'per page' or 'per document fee'…as he quotes, and is a common problem in the notary industry. Notarization is a 'professional/gov't appointed third party witness to someone's proven identity and/or signature' and is NOT A LAWYER and charging for 'advice' or 'preparing the document' or anything that resembles 'per document and not per signature' is very likely a violation of your state's laws. Check DIRECTLY with the agency that appoints/licenses notaries in your state to confirm "How can I charge?" and "Someone on the internet said I could charge $$$ per document and not per signature." and see their reaction.
Note: Some states ALSO limit the 'travel fee' for traveling to the person…though most do not. The 'per document fee' as quoted on here violates every state law that I know of…but, be VERY CAREFUL of YOUR STATE LAWS. The 'travel fee' in states that don't limit what you can charge for traveling to the person/s is where you can negotiate a higher rate for your service…in states that allow that. But, this is a competitive business and people commonly call more than one notary for a quote.

Not all states operate in such a way that money, a substantial amount of money, can be made, most notaries operate through companies. The majority of states put a cap on how much private notaries can charge and in the majority of cases it is not very much. Check state rules on notaries before jumping into this person's business plan.
